We all get into those days where we don’t feel like getting out of bed because of cold and cough. Throat irritation and blockage of nasal passage usually accompanies a cold. Usually, the most common reasons for cold are low immunity, exposure to cold, irritating inhalations. A combination of honey, lemon, and turmeric in warm water will help with the cold you have. This is a simple detox solution as well and can be consumed every day. It is a good source of antioxidant vitamin C and will help boost your metabolism. But always remember to focus on having plenty of fluids, and a night of good sleep.
I highly recommend rich Vitamin C foods from my own experience. Fruits such as oranges, strawberries, lemons are very effective in treating a common cold. Vitamin C increases the resistance in your body against the virus and decreases the duration of the illness. Lemon water is the easiest way to take your Vitamin C. If you don’t like just water and lemon you can add honey in it and drink this at least for 3-4 days- twice daily.
Ginger is also very good to get rid of the cold. Take about ¾ tsp of ginger and add in the boiling water. Strain and drink it while hot. You can also add honey in this as it will help with the throat irritation. Ginger has been known among the healthiest and delicious spices on the planet. Honey has a variety of antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. Research has proven that honey is an effective cough suppressant. Giving kids honey at bedtime can reduce the severity of the cough symptoms. Kids sleep soundly if 2 tsp of honey is given to them when they have a cough.
Turmeric is the most effective ingredient you can use to help you cure of common cold. Turmeric mixed in a glass of warm milk should be taken twice a day.
Thyme has been known as a common remedy for cough and sore, itchy throat. It has both culinary and medicinal uses. You can make a thyme tea by adding 2 tsp of dried thyme (which you can find in every grocery store) to a cup of hot water. Let it steep for 10 minutes before you strain it.
Try to eat fresh sautéed vegetables as vegetables have nutrients that strengthen your immune system. Always remember do not cook vegetables for a long time as it will result in the loss of all the nutrients like vitamins B and C.
Remember to avoid fried foods, cold beverages, pickles, preserved foods, and alcohol.
